WW2 Stories With A BackDrop Of The Spruce Goose

Spruce Goose

The Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, just 45 minutes southwest of Portland, Oregon, really do stick to their mission statement.

At a recent visit we had the pleasure of meeting some veterans of WW2 who are volunteers at the Museum. One in particular, Daniel McAllister, who had been a Docent since 2008, had a story to tell, and we were ready to listen.

Daniel was a mechanic in the P38 Photo Reconnaissance Squadron based in England in January 1944 before D-Day. He volunteered in October 1942 just after he turned 20 years old. He said he was a buck sergeant, which for him was the best rank in the Military. When he finally went home at 24 he signed up again for Korea.
